3 hours of high quality compressed music could easily be 500 MB. Although I have no idea why they would use streamed music when the source is sequenced. A nice, accurate soundfont and MIDI tracks would do just fine. Maybe you're right and they included the videos from the PSX release. This seems to be based on the iOS version though.

I wonder how the interface works. The iOS menu system (boner menu, lol) is made for touchscreen and this release claims controller support.

Controller support should translate to keyboard/mouse support. Being based on an IOS touch screen base, long as they left the viagra out of the menu mix, might even relate to real mouse support. (Yes, I use a mouse even on PS3, I'm a PC gamer and I want my mouse to work!)

Streaming music, or streaming anything for that matter, sounds more like a STEAM proofing anti-sepperation method if anything. As you said, not required by any means to have good or better sound quality.

Which takes us to the other thing, a FF6 for PC hack? I would expect it to be broke loose from any STEAM dependancy first, if that happens then... possibly some hacking going on, but even then I think being based on the IOS version is going to make several of the game hackers look the other way. Course I could be wrong, for that matter they might stray far enough from the IOS version to make it good, but I still have doubts. They were pretty proud of that version.

i hope people can get past the sprites (rework them even) to make good mods for it.

because it runs on the IOs version, i imagine the databases are quite a bit larger than the SNES version which could make larger mods etc to be possible...theoretically.

gotta admit the idea of doing some custom graphics here really appeals to me.. so what if it's ios sprites if they can be changed Smile.. what make or break it for me is if the other parts of the game could be hacked like script and music ect

The only limit is imagination. And 16 colors.. I guess

Every game can be hacked. It's however too soon to have documented data and code. The save game data will probably come first.

As for the graphics, all the flb graphic files can be viewed with TextureFinder, so the format is not that evil. If I could get the hand on the flb extractor mentionned in the VG Resource threads mentionned above (dropbox links give a 404 error) , I could reverse the code and turn back the spritesheet back to a flb file. The Square flb format is not really documented, because FFV and FF Dimension use a binary format for graphics.

Edit: The flb format applies to the iOS/ Android version, until someone finds the encryption key and unpack the files for the PC version we can only speculate about the PC version file formats.

Worthy double post: To fully understand the problem with the iOS/Steam versions sprites, a long but interesting read: http://www.fortressofdoors.com/doing-an-...i-edition/

Also, I renamed the thread title to something more fitting.

SO many good points in that article. Thanks for the link, Madsiur. My personal biggest problem with the sprites aren't in the design, but the execution. I mean, 70% of those sprites look pillow shaded, with a light-source that is centered and direct. The entire perspective is thrown off because of it.

Original FF6's sprite design had a slight angled top-down perspective, and the environments were conditioned around that. In the IOS version, they just filtered the original backgrounds, but redrew the sprites... and shaded them with a different lighting perspective. ...which is why the IOS sprites seem like they clash with the world they are standing on. You're looking at, and controlling a direct, center-lit person standing in a top-down room. Two separate dimensions. And they should have known better. That's spriting 101: Shading for the correct perspective.

Cartoony artistic design in fine. Shoddy execution by paid professionals is not.
