So I whipped together an item randomizer in Excel and the idea is pretty sound, though the process requires a bit more refinement. I'm currently playtesting a randomized game that has entirely new randomly generated items such as Vanish Mote (MT Vanish), Mega Tonic (MT Tonic), and Loco Weed (MT sets Muddle).

Of course I picked the names myself and did the editing by hand, I just used a spreadsheet to create a list of randomly assigned properties. It has some rudimentary checks (I'm not good with Excel) to ensure that the items created are sane. It's not usable as is, but it's a proof-of-concept that the idea of randomized items is at least viable.

So, something that I think would be neat to see would be the main characters being able to get guest characters abilities, and vice versa. Aww, Terra has berserk, Locke has Possess, and Edgar has Health... you MAY have a hard time for that first bit. Oh, but whats this? Banon has Blitz, and Ghost has Magic and morph? Well, shit. Have fun while you can! Maybe a special randomizer just for this, since its probably not for everyone. Also, what about one that makes it so multiple people can have the same abilities? A few berserkers, a couple slots, two ragers? Talking about a crazy party.

We definitely thought about that.

I should also mention there exists another randomizer already, one called Beyond Chaos. It's not quite as user friendly, but it changes a LOT of stuff. Definitely a different sort of experience. Here's the link: https://github.com/abyssonym/beyondchaos

Interesting... what does it randomize, exactly? Kungfu!

PS. that program has been created from another guy, right?

Possess couldn't be randomized anyhow, since a player could easily make the game unwinnable by losing a character that they are supposed to have during a cutscene.

Why not? You may risk to make collapse the game, but what if a phantom Mog wanna possess final Kefka in the name of the peace? Laugh Confused

Ps. you may actually have 2 possess per game: one in WoB and one in WoR... perhaps Gau could possess endlessly... just recruit him at the Veldt after you use possess Hmm

Actually, if your character is on the airship, Possess will just send them back there. You can use Possess at any time you want, as long as it's not before a cutscene that a character is expected to be in (and as long as you're willing to give the character up for the rest of the dungeon).

In that case it's overpower too!
Just avoid to use it determined moments...

It could so be randomized. It's overpowered, sure, but risky. And during times you know you shouldn't use it... I mean, let's face it, it'd be a temptation. Imagine all things you could do more easily, though. However, if you had to walk back a long ways, you may end up regretting it.

The problem is that bosses usually occur at the end of a dungeon, and due to the open-ended nature of the WoR, you rarely require a specific character for cutscenes. That means that you'd be able to fry pretty much every boss in the WoR without fear of consequences, except for Kefka's Tower and some of the dragons.
