Hello! Thanks for breathing new life into my favorite game. I don't need to use game genie codes to make the game more challenging now...

I've only played a little bit, up to the first time you reach South Figaro, but here are a couple things so far.

I like the light touch you've used on the dialog, good job there.

One problem I'm having is frequent 2-3 second hangups or stutters, particularly when a monster casts a spell it doesn't normally have that has a long animation (like the monster in Figaro Cave with the ice cave in attack, that one got me about a 5 second freeze). I'm not sure if this is the emulator (zsnes) or it being due to the rom being patched or my old crappy graphics card (geforce 2 mx).

Also, I tried to perform a barrel-roll on a chocobo and it didn't work....
1: im sure that the Cursed shield must be first... you have to win 256 battles with the cursed shield equipped (don`t forget that Gogo can not uncurse it)
4: im sure that the cactuar only exists in the gameboy advance version...

thats all i can help you with...

(A Ribbon should work or outright tell me it doesn't work on Condemned.) Does this shield uncurse if different people wield it in battle, such as Terra for some fights and Locke for others?

This is quite interesting, actually, because Ribbons *do* block the Condemned status in our mod (where they didn't before). And equipping a Ribbon with, say, a Hyper Wrist will prevent the latter from taking effect, so it's not an issue with equipment conflicts. the only thing I can think of is that condemned in this case is checking instant death immunity instead of condemned immunity.

Well, if you haven't been to Kefka's Tower yet, then you haven't gotten to where you would have gotten Crusader *before*, so clearly you have wagered a guess that Crusader is no longer the reward for defeating all eight dragons.

What I'll say is that, while a few things have been shuffled around, there are no new hiding places for anything. As long as you look everywhere where there used to be something in the original game, you'll find everything in the mod.

(07-30-2013, 05:15 AM)Endarire Wrote: [ -> ]3: Did you intend to make the girls (Terra, Celes, Relm) generally the most powerful party members? All can equip armor to completely negate Ice/Fire/Bolt damage and can spam 9999 damage spells against energy-weak foes.

The girls are the most *versatile* characters (well, Terra and Celes are, anyway), but which character is the BEST is a matter of debate. Ideally, there should be no consensus on who the best teammate is, and that seems pretty much to be the case thus far.

Terra and Celes specifically were built as team captains because they're the main characters, and so I had to make it pretty hard to go wrong with them. Relm is a badass just because overkill is sort of her thing.

(For the record, I think Terra is the best character)

(07-30-2013, 05:15 AM)Endarire Wrote: [ -> ]4: Is Cactrot/Cactuar still around? If so, what's the best place to find and fight him?

Yeah, he's in the Figaro Desert.

(07-30-2013, 05:15 AM)Endarire Wrote: [ -> ]5: In the Maranda Desert, I went hunting for quite some time. (Maybe 20 fights.) After that, I walked around and tried to find a random encounter. I walked around the overworld for about a minute and thought, "I rolled really well on the 'don't find random encounters' table." And no Cactrot/Cactuar. Sleeping at Maranda's inn fixed things. (I probably only needed to reenter the overworld.)

Derp. I mistakenly left a small chunk of map near Maranda no-encountered.

Will fix in the next update.

(07-30-2013, 05:15 AM)Endarire Wrote: [ -> ]6: Another way to make Cyan better (or suck less) is to reduce the wait time of Bushido. It shouldn't take as long as Magic to go off.

All special skills have the same delay time as magic does. It's to balance them out versus a regular attack.

(07-30-2013, 05:15 AM)Endarire Wrote: [ -> ]7: In a forest, I encountered 4 Leap Frogs. I controlled one, but wasn't able to kill it. While controlled, my spells couldn't target it and I couldn't force it to attack itself to break control. (I think it was because it had lept already.)

Yet another reason I want to get rid of Control...
-=1.2.0=-
1: I drove Figaro Castle and parked it in Figaro Desert. I walked around for about a minute and, again, no encounters. Then I parked my airship near the desert and ran along the continent in fast forward. No encounters.

2: The Maranda Desert lacking encounters was after I'd walked around for quite some time and fought a buncha encounters. The same spots where I fought things before no longer gave fights.

3: In Kefka's place, I used Sketch against a Diabolos (the Behemoth knock offs) and got 'Meteo,' but Meteo never came. Then the Diabolos used Meteo on me. Wuh?

4: Kefka's Tower: I got to near the end (one of the Triad remains) and reentered. Group 1, after the save point (where the Guardian used to be), is trying to go up the stairs but found a blockage on the stairs. They can't proceed up the stairs. The other 2 groups are on their switches near the 4 ton weights. Ruh?

Sweet mother of f**k**g tits, I *know* I had that set at some point because I've gotten into fights walking out of Figaro Castle...

But yeah, apparently the no-encounter gremlins have struck again.

This is because of how the encounter system works. It loads the encounter rate when you enter the map and it doesn't change until you leave and re-enter the map, either by going into town/the airship or into battle. Thus, if you end up getting into a fight in a "no encounter" zone, then you're free to wander the map forever without getting into a fight.

Can you duplicate this? I'd really need to see a video or a savestate to accurately gauge what's happening here Sad

I have no clue on this one. Is it a visible blockage?

That looks like what you have to clear by having team three press the button in the chest to Sabin's right.

1: In Kefka's Tower (and perhaps elsewhere), how'zbout making the open chests that are switches have a glow to them (like a save point is in them) so I know they're special?

2: In the Phoenix Cave near where you get Locke, I saw near the top right a glowing pink spot, similar to how a save point would look if it glowed pink (or perhaps were inverted in color). I believe this was in the original game as well. What is that and what's it do?

That Pink Sparkle (Click to View)
Apparently, the little glow light in the chest disappearing is a known bug with the original game, though it's weird that it never seemed to show up for you initially.

The one in the Phoenix Cave is a warp back to the beginning.
How's that warp to the start work? I've never had the inclination to try it.
