So, thanx to Madsiur and greatly to Gi Nattak, I have learned a lot in the last few days about Song hacking. I requested a song a few days ago to replace the Last Dungeon song. Instead of doing it for me, they both jumped into to help me learn. While I still have a few more things to learn, I am happy to say I have something to show for my hard work and their help. I will release my IPS patches here for any songs I create or any requests I take (can't guarantee they'll be as good as Gi Nattak would make but I'll do my best). Thank you Madsiur and Especially you Gi Nattak yet again for assisting me and helping me learn all that I can!

When you create a patch, your patch should only change what is supposed to change, and here we tals about the song pointer, the instruments and song data.

Your patch change a lot of bytes from the beginning to the end of the ROM.

I ran an IPS report with your patch on a version 1.0 ROM headered and unheadered.

Edit: Your patch is 2.9mb in size which is close to the size of the original ROM.

I'll be completely honest, not sure what a lot of that means. All I know is that the song was bigger then the original and it needed to be pointed to elsewhere which I explained in the post so I'm not sure what the issue is pertaining to "should only change what needed to be changed"...

That being said, I don't know how I'm supposed to make it smaller. The only reason it's that big, I would assume, is bcuz it's also expanding the rom which again I needed to do in order to input the song. Putting it over the original would have caused issues with the next song in the data.

So... should I just give out the .mml next time? or the binary data? What would you have me do different?

EDIT: It also didn't change bytes throughout the rom. I was informed by Gi Nattak that in order for the Instrument changes to take effect in the SPC editor, the header had to be removed. The only other bytes changed aside from the addition of the song in the F1 bank was the song pointer. If there was anything else changed, I had no part in it and am not sure why it got changed. This was a fresh rom. IF anything else has changed aside form the things I have pointed out I will gladly re-upload. My apologies for any inconvenience.

I don't think anyone wants his F bank completely blanked out if they already got stuff in it. Aside of that, you should take my words or run an IPS log by patching a clean ROM and you'll see by yourself.

Edit: you should not patch from a vanilla ROM because applying the patch will erase everything in the F bank aside your song. You should take as a patch clean ROM an expanded ROM. Also, there's lot of bytes changed in the C, D and E banks and it should not be the case. Make sure you start from a clean ROM, as it is now, you patch is almost as big as the clean ROM, it's the proof that data is shifted or something.

I am not sure what to do about that. I did just check, but I did none of that. I opened up a fresh rom, even re-did my music import onto a different rom entirely. created a patch from that (not expanding it btw just porting it to the normal spot, no pointer changes or anything) and those changes still occur.

I have no idea why they happen. Should I be creating the patch with something other than Lunar?

And again I ask on the subject of no one wanting there F bank blanked out you didn't answer my question xD. What's a different and alright way to release the song?

EDIT: That's exactly what I am saying Madsiur, I just re-did it with a completely clean set of roms. dumped the song data into clean rom #1 and created a patch (didn't expand this time, just regular spot for testing) used patch created on clean rom #2 and extra changes still occur. What do I do?

I think your problem is you inserted $FF to expand the ROM instead of $00 and thus the IPS patch creator reads $FF as a change and you then create an IPS that's bloated.

I inserted $100000 worth of data using $00 instead of $FF and reimported your SPC sequence, sample indexes and pointer. This produced an IPS a little over 3KB in size using Lunar IPS.

FF7 Final Judgement IPS

Thank you for the fixed IPS. That's actually not my problem though. I did a little test:

1. 2 clean fresh downloaded roms (A and B)
2. removed header from A
3. created patch from simple "no header" A
4. applied patch to B and created log
5. same extra bits were changed

Nattak at 1st suggested it was the tool I was using to remove the header. So he suggested I remove it with Windhex instead. It still occured.

If anyone can tell me why this is happening that would help Sad. But it's not bcuz of how I import, it's simply bcuz I take the header off the rom. OR it could be Lunar IPS in general. I may have a buggy version. But it was the same set of changes as the one with my song (without the song added in ofc).
