Side Attack Error
#1
After trying some patch & IPS, an error occurred. In a side attack enemy fight, character #3 & 4 move to the middle, while character #1 & 2 move to the left facing left as well. Is there an IPS that fixed this?

You need to document which patches you use, make backups of your ROM before using any new patch, and most importantly learn about the ROM header and ROM version you have before using patches, because each patch has four prerequisites to keep in mind:

1) Patch is made for a certain ROM localization (US, Japan, etc.)
2) Patch is made for either version 1.0 or 1.1. (1.0 is the most popular one for hacking intentions)
3) Patch is made for either a headered ROM, or an unheadered ROM. (good patch-makers will usually include both)
4) Patch does not conflict with any other patches' code changes. (to prevent conflictions/corruption)

In other words, you can't just use a bunch of patches all willy-nilly like without making sure of the four prerequisites listed above, and not expect bad things to happen. Usually there will be patching info and code-change offsets included for each patch in the form of a Readme, or in the appropriate thread if no readme comes with. There is no way for anyone to help figure out the exact cause of your issue because it would simply be guessing, unless you provide a list of each patch you've used...but I doubt that anyone would want to sift through them all looking for the exact cause. And no, unfortunately there's no magic IPS to fix random corruption issues. Sad

Make it a habit to always backup your ROM before applying a new patch so you can figure out which one or combination of patches led to the ROMs' demise. If you don't have any recent backup, then I suppose your next step would be figuring out which patch or patches is the cause of this trouble, but doing so will most likely be a chore... you'd have to make anti-patches if none were included or most likely instead do some patch reports and figure out what code was effected and export/import over good data from a clean ROM.

Also for future references there exists a Patch Conflict Finder utility that helps to know if two or more patches will conflict: https://www.ff6hacking.com/wiki/lib/exe/...sc:pcf.rar

You can list what patches you've used if you like, and perhaps someone will be able to identify the most likely culprit(s).

Something scrambled like that, rather than total tilt rainbow screen of death colors, sounds a lot like your problem is #2 (possible #1) in Gi Nattak's list. If you still have all the patches saved, go through and double check versions and type for them all and you'll most likely find the source of the problem.

Even if someone made a patch to restore all the code for side attacks, you'll most likely get a complete crash when you run into something that attempts to use broken code (or half overwritten code) later on.

And yeah really take that part about backups seriously, one random unknown mis-stroke key in a hex editor has corrupted a lot of ROM's with no easy way to ever find one stray bit. That Patch Conflict Finder is realy awesome when adding several different patchs as well.

Guess I could have just wrote "Yeah, what he said" but that would have been to simple.
