Modifying Portrait Info in FF6 Advance
09-24-2012, 04:34 PM
I know that modifying the portraits has been done in the SNES version, but has anyone managed to modify the portraits in the GBA remake? I popped the European ROM open in YY-CHR and did some searching, but although I was somewhat able to find the character graphics and the monsters, I wasn't able to locate the portraits.

I think pretty much everything is build the same way in the advance version, but this might be an exception and the portrait would be compressed graphics, meaning they will look like data or weird patterns in 4bpp. I'm not sure though.

madsiur, you were able to understand how the SNES rom reads information on the portraits. If you looked through the advance ROM, would it still be similar?

Good question but if they are compressed graphics there is a step added and I have none of the dissasemblies of the advanced version. It only assumption from here. Best bet would be to use a graphic editor like NLZ-GBA but I cannot open any of the FFVI GBA rom with it.

Necropost but for a decent reason. Found the goddam portraits.
Code:
5FE83E-60301D GFX Portraits (23 entries * 0x320 bytes)

I'm guessing, then, they were both encrypted and absolutely buried in there.
