This mod looks awesome and I can't wait to try it!

But I'm having trouble getting it to install and run. Cover

I've tried a few different ROM version and used the headered and unheadered patches. I can usually get through the opening sequence, but the game locks up totally when Vicks/Biggs says his first line on the cliff.

What version of the ROM do you recommend?

It should work with either 1.0 or 1.1. What it sounds like to me is that you're encountering the bug that pops up if you just let the game run from the title screen (which evidently still hasn't been fixed).

Try making sure that your inputs are being accepted by the emulator, and then skip the title screen by hitting A while it's playing the opening (with the clouds and thunder and such).

Will I need to do that every time I load up the game? Or was it a one time deal?

It's only an issue if you're starting the game from the beginning. If you're continuing from a save or save state, that problem shouldn't affect you.

But yeah, that opening scroll thing is one of those things that I keep forgetting to fix. It's on about the same priority level as that Remedy fix that Synchysi's working on, though, so I'll just have to remember to put it in the next update.

So, new version is forthcoming... here's the changelog:

• Tweaked the stat boosts on the Mystery/Oath Veil (both were previously set incorrectly)

• Fixed an error where the Longinus was still set to do equal damage from the back row

• Fixed an error where several pieces of end-game armor had the wrong defensive values set

• Fixed an error where the Relic Ring incorrectly provided stat boosts

• Fixed an error where some enemies had the wrong elemental weaknesses set or incorrectly lacked the "floating" property

• Removed the "dies at 0 MP" property from the Fanatics Tower mages (the non-undead ones), as well as Hidon and the Hidonites

• Tweaked the counter-attacks of a few enemies (notably, Demons will no longer counter Throw)

• Tweaked the AI of a certain boss to stop harshly countering an attack that's very likely to be used against him/her/it (this isn't me trying to be vague - I honestly don't know)

• Fixed a bug wherein the game would soft-lock if it went into "attract" mode

• Fixed some typos in the dialogue

• Fixed some formatting errors with the printme that were causing some pages to print out incorrectly; also corrected a few errors

• Added a lore guide and a writeup of enemy AI to the main section of the Unlockme.txt file, as well as two new sections containing a list of references in the mod and commentary on our translation choices
