Really great work overall. However, his walking backwards sprites have some awkwardness around the shoulders. He doesn't appear to have his shoulder pads for one. Also, while I think I like how you connected his head to his neck, it's a little ambiguous due to how the cape just starts without any division.
More on the cape - the shading lines look tacked-on, you may want to connect them all the way to the bottom edge of the cape (look at things like Edgar or Celes's capes for reference).
