This isn't really a tutorial as much as it's notes I'm compiling.
This boss sprite I'm designing is based on ArcadianKnight's red dragon. She was asking me for help on it.

I was completely honest and truthful with her when I said it needed a good bit of work. I told her it looked like a good start for a first try, but it isn't really useable in FFVI because of the style, simplicity and it's resolution.
The aim of this thread/topic is to create a boss sprite and get it as close as possible to Squaresoft style.
I was frank with ArcadianKnight and told her that she'd have to start over. So I and her are working on a new creature that looks similar to a Behemoth.
Step 1: Find concept art for your enemy sprite.

Step 2: Design a simple silhouette of the creatures body. It's important to have a silhouette because it depicts proportions. Your silhouette doesn't have to be perfect at first but you should later get it as accurate as possible before you begin to add in the details.

Step 3: Next add some legs to your creatures silhouette.

Step 4: Add some miscellanea features to the silhouette, such as hair, horns, etc.
