I was curious about these i have tried watching some of the tutorials like the one about how to edit the shield graphic. https://www.ff6hacking.com/forums/thread-3204.html

i found a site with the graphic tables from ffvi and a whole bunch of other games
https://www.spriters-resource.com/snes/ff6/
https://www.spriters-resource.com/snes/ff6/sheet/6705/
So this one has the some of the spells for this game and i have always really liked the final fantay iv fire 3 found in the following
https://www.spriters-resource.com/snes/ff4/sheet/5215/
So i had quite a few questions lol

1 I tried to get the weapon animations off of the sprite viewer the map says they aren't compressed so how do i save them as a bin to view on the yychr?
2 In the video it said i needed a save state from when the shield was shown so i need to get a shield block save state to edit the shield or whatever item? or maybe i really misunderstood that part i use snes9x-x64 do i need a different emulator?

So my questions are how would this be done lol and second on a scale of like 1-10 how insane would it be to move spell and weapons from those tables into the game

Hopefully im not spamming to many posts and stuff

The weapons and spell graphics are not compressed graphics like the shield-blocking graphic, so you don't need to de-compress them in order to veiw/edit them in yy-chr. You just need to set up the yy-chr setting correctly and then go to where they are located. It can be kinda touchy though getting them to show up the first time.

As for making new weapon and spell graphics - it is very tricky because they are scattered in a bunch of pieces and some share with others. Will take a lot of trial and error editing them and then seeing how they look in game.

spells begin at offset 130000 : https://imgur.com/a/33jd8nW
weapons are just under them at 133FC0 : https://imgur.com/a/dbxt4dZ

Just make sure you're at 3BPP SNES and if they all look garbled or messed up keep pressing the + or - key until they line up correctly, allowing you to edit them.

Yes you got the right idea about the loading a save state during when the animation is used, then it will show a bunch of more palette sets to choose from besides the default ones, then you must find and click on the correct one for whichever graphic you're editing. Any save state is okay I suppose, snes9x ones should be fine.

It will be difficult to swap over a different spell graphic but not impossible, it will depend. But you rarely see new spell graphics so it is not that easy. Weapons are probably a bit easier considering they would usually be about the same size. But for instance you could probably find the fire ball graphic and change it to some other kind of fireball, as long as it's pieced together the same way.

We are born, live, die and then do the same thing over again.

On a scale of 1 to 10 the difficulty is about 9 for someone starting ROM hacking.

The weapons are not compressed, they are stored as 3bpp graphics in the ROM. The "swing" of a weapon is an animation and each unique tile is stored once, not like those PNGs. This is a bit of an uncharted territory for me so I'll stop here. The spell animation are similar, there's 1, 2, or 3 script for each spell. This is documented though and the battle animation disassembly is available on the document page of the wiki. You could import in the ROM as 4bpp the animation tiles and create (overwrite) some scripts for the new spell. It's not impossible to do: https://youtu.be/cYo45VCfQ6U

Edit: For the savestate, it is only used for the palette to allow easier editing, only zsnes palette will load in YY-CHR.

I think im going to have to hold off on that then lol i have plenty of other work to do already thank you for the help it should help when i try to do it later

So i have another question that will hopefully be easier lol i have searched for pallete faq's but they all involve character sprites when i just wan't to change the color's of the weapons. is there a way to view in ff3usme when you change the pallette instead of changing saving loading the rom repeat? or do i have to load up that yychr to view the weapon and change palletes for it
