Gauntlet problem

So first off I will apologize if this is the wrong place to even post this, but I figured it was possibly the closest place to do it, feel free to delete or move this topic else where if I goofed.

So I've been wondering for awhile about the equip glitch and trying to find if there are ways to exploit it. I tried to use a gauntlet and slap a auto crossbow as a shield for Edgar, but obviously because it is grayed out you cannot equip anything.

The next thing I thought was that maybe if I don't have a weapon equipped that It should auto equip the crossbow first and then I can just add a weapon to it normally, but it wont even do that.

So my question to you guys, since I myself am not very good when it comes to hacking, wanted to know. In the coding for an equipped Gauntlet itself, is there anything that can be used to bypass the block on the shield slot whether or not there is a weapon that can be equipped currently.
