Final Fantasy VI: The Eternal Crystals
06-30-2022, 06:23 PM
Hi there thought post this here rather than do a request, tried modding eternal crystals kain and dark knight Cecil into vanilla game. Managed to get sprites using web based editor but can’t get the abilities like Edgar dragon ability. Any help is highly appreciated.

Hey! Long time, no see. - My version of FFVI - EC seems to have problems with different emulators. Basically, the opening animation starts, but then you cannot enter the actual game. What can I do?
(Noob here, please be patient.)

The problem is the ROM you're using to patch to - there are FF3/6 US ROMS that have what's called a 'header' and then ones than do not have a header... and then there's two different versions of 1.0 and 1.1 also... Eternal Crystals requires the ROM to be headered, so you'll need to locate the correct ROM to patch to. Alternatively, you could use a tool to add or remove a header from the ROM, such as SNEStuff or Advanced SNES ROM Utility. There is a way to calculate if the ROM you have is the headered one, or using a hex editor and checking, but it's easier for a noob to just use the aforementioned user-friendly utilities to add or remove the header. So to sum this up, you patched to an incorrect FF3 ROM, you'll want to patch to a clean (no previous modifications/patches) FF3 US 1.0 Headered ROM. Try searching for that, or using a utility. And be sure to start over with a fresh/clean ROM before patching again.
We are born, live, die and then do the same thing over again.

Headered vanilla ROMs of FF6 end their file size with a 3 as opposed to a 2. There's a tool called NSRT that can add a header to an unheadered ROM, but now that Romhacking.net is down I'm not sure where to recommend finding that utility. Alternatively, you can use LeetSketcher's program Headerizer to *remove* the header requirement from the Eternal Crystals patch:

If you've got the wrong US version of FF6, there are patches to convert 1.1 to 1.0 on the wiki:

Hey, guys! Thank you very much! Actually, it seems to simply have been a bug - in the end I solved this probably in the same minute that I had posted my question here: I accelerated the game during the intro, and that "pushed" the scene towards the beginning of the interactive part. Been playing the game since then without any further irregularity - at the opera scene now. works like a charm.
Snes9x EX+, 1.5.82 on Android, hack "10.8.3"; would upload the .ips file for your convenience, but if I didn't know it better, I'd say the patched ROM is from the 1990s, or something, with the patch file itself nowhere to be seen any more.
