Hacking Battle Backgrounds
*Please Read Carefully*
Before you read any further, know that the actual process of hacking the background is relitively easy but making it look good is not. We are essentially hacking the graphics, not the tile editor. This means you're replacing a background and can't edit the tiles placement. This will make hacking a bg extremely diffiuclty, or rather time consuming. FFVI reuses tiles to save space, which means the battle BG's aren't one big image you can just extract and edit easily. That being said, here is my work so far.
To hack battle backgrounds, you must know how to hack compressed graphics. If not, please read my tutorial on how to. Below are two screenshots and a download to the decompressed .bin file to edit. It's enough to get you all started in the right direction. The first sceenshot depicts the default unedited Narshe battle background, it makes a good reference when hacking it in YY-CHR or any other editor you choose. It shows tile placement.
