So I put an attempt out there to give the items in FFVI symbols, much like Dawn of Souls did.
I replaced the "Arrows", but FF6 really didn't like that... at all.
If you click the "Arrange" option in the item inventory, it deletes all items with these symbols.
In-battle, they also look like this:
