Which is your favorite Magic System?
01-11-2011, 07:23 PM
There are a good deal of different magic systems:
FFI- buy the spells and had a certain amount of times you can cast each level
FF2- learn them and they became more powerful as they leveled up (1mp cost Ultima ftw)
FF4- learned by leveling up
FF5- learned through jobs
FF6- Espers (mainly)
FF7- Materia
FF8- Draw system
FF9- Learned from equipment
FF10- Grid System

You missed FF3.
But personally, I like the Grid system most. Each character is designed to learn their own abilities and spells, and they excell in this category and learn everything at a balanced pace... and with enough patience and hard work, anyone can learn anything

Even though you can turn back the time,
you're always a moment too late!"

For me, I actually dislike that immensely. FFX introduced a new class: Demi-God which was eventually perfected in FFXII which was: God.
I don't think that every character should be able to learn and wield every single weapon, armor and ability (with extraordinarily small exceptions). This takes away the role-playing aspect of the game. If everyone can do everything...what is the fun in that? you have 3 (or 4) superbeings with insane stats and the ability to do whatever it is they wanted... how...fun... =/
Regardless how I may feel about the situation, I'll respect your opinion.

I agree with Ren on this one. This is the reason why I really liked FFIV, excluding FFIV DS which had augments and such. FFIV had certain characters who could do certain things, such as Rosa with White Magic, or Kain with Jump. It also was traditional with spells gained through leveling up. I find this to be very balanced because the spells are gained when the difficulty of enemies increases.

I would say 10 and 12 and 13!
by 10 because everyone can use the same spell!
by 12 because the new spells are having better animations and stronger spells and it can learn everyone the same magic!
by 13 the same like by 12.
i also think i should make the spell stalagmite from Golden sun 1 and 2. i also think i make an char from Golden sun like Garet.

While FF5 had my favorite ability system, the magic system is not the same, it is much more similar to 3's buying magic but with no limit. While it was great, I disliked the fact that all party members shared a spell list. The only type I liked about that is blue magic. I would have to give the award to 6. Materia is great and all but nothing beats the Espers.

For me, I enjoyed the magic system of FFIV, however I enjoy how through all FF's there is a diverse range of systems.
