I had a similar hack idea, sort of an "FFVI: Upgraded version", with new translation, new and modified events, an overall rebalancing as well as new monsters. All that without touching the original story and events. Sadly, I stopped the project for now knowing the FFVI SDK for RPG Maker will be out relatively soon.

You should include video or screenshot of some modified events when you have some as well as maybe list the changes in detail.
