They're both the piece of paper - 298 is when you find it, 299 is Banon's reaction if you leave it on the floor.

So, 299 is called if you trigger 298 and then agree to be Banon's "last ray of hope"? Seems odd that nobody ever noticed a blank caption in BNW for so long. Are you sure it actually gets called in the American version? I seem to recall hearing something about Banon's part getting dummied out.

It definitely gets called, it's a funny, albeit pointless little scene. If Terra searches the table you can throw it away, but if you don't, then if you choose to be the ray of hope, the very first thing that happens at the table is Banon walks down and says "hey, who left this paper here"?picks it up and throws it away in that little pot object and Terra does an action, then the event carries on. In the Japanese version I'm sure it was a porno mag.

You have too much imagination:

Many RPG I've played from Japan, they always seem to sneak in a porno mag that winds up being censored. Well, Cyan's books are at least in FF6. But this one definitely had potential to be.

Do you have a source for that, e.g. not some random forum post?

Edit: I just read the ffwiki entry and it points toward that direction, though only from FF6A and later.

I just had someone test, and that line isn't being called during the meeting scene regardless of whether or not he picks up the "tissue" beforehand. And BNW doesn't edit that scene. Is there something I'm missing?

Found the problem. 298 has a choice on it in vanilla that BNW removes. Forgot all about that one. My mistake; sorry, y'all.

So... 1748.

Is this Lone Wolf holding Mog hostage? I can't think of anything else it might be.

This one is used for the game over screen/event as a sort of timer to go along with the song - once enough time has gone by (song ends) it closes on it's own and the event ends itself. It's also used for some reason in ghost train restaurant, during the eating sequence, or rather just before it. It's an interesting and somewhat unique method to use a timed dialog box this way. I wound up removing it for the ghost train one, since I had used the box for something else, and I saw that pop up during that scene and was like wtf?!
