So what are your hacking projects except FF3us? What would you like to do after your FF6 mod? Which game have you hacked previously? It can be any game related projects, including music, model design, coding, RPG maker and modding.

I did not have an modding background before starting FF6 modding. I had only coded a few small games on PC such as minesweeper and a 3D maze (done with C++ and OpenGL). I'd like to do the following in the next years:

  1. Code an FFII (FF4) graphic editor. I already started it and will get back to it once my FF6EME editor will be ready.

  2. I'd like to get back on my FF6 Advance editor (after project 1) and do more findings on the GBA ROM map, maybe try to do a disassembly of the GBA game, but this is more of a pipe dream (for now) than anything else since I would need to learn ARM coding. The FF6 GBA version needs more love.

  3. I'd like to port my FF6 hack to RPG maker and make and expanded version of it with the FF6 SDK.

  4. I'd like to code an RPG in C++ with the SDL library, old style and turn based. This require a lot of planning and would be a large scale project. I dunno if I'm ready to do this, so I'll leave this in the pipe dream category for now.

  5. Chrono Trigger or FF4 hack. This would be started normal after my FF6 hack and project 3, in tandem with project 2.

So I am busy for the next few years, let's hope procrastination won't ruin my plans.

Nice choice. There's an editor and disassemblies for that game.

Yeah been following the editor for years. It's still in development and has a lot of bugs to work out but it is very promising. The creator (Mop) takes amazingly long breaks from working on it sadly, and it's currently not being worked on as far as I know. But I think it can export the changes to ROM now at least, which it couldn't for the first few versions.

Well, my hacking story is interesting... maybe? Laugh
Before FF6:
- The first thing i did after i got internet for the first time in my life(sadly when i was 14 T_T ) was searching for Super Mario World Game/Hacks/Hard Hacks, after i beat the game, Kaizo, Brutal Mario, etc. i finally discovered the existance of Lunar Magic and so i started hacking levels... never did that on deep levels(just a year ago i tried and eventually succeded in making a custom sprite with a minimal AI: a troll face which fall from the sky, stop on ground and goes left like forever Laugh )
In total i did 2 significant projects with SMW:

1) (Inspired by a funny run from Youtuber ProtonJonSA), one time he started
talking about "Death water" since he died from what looked like a pool of
water XD and so i based my hack on the fact the world is almost completely
covered from death water and you goal is making it disappear. despite there
are almost all vanilla game, at a certain point i started being bored and so i
stopped doing challenging levels and placed funny death/ auto played(no need
of moving Mario to finish the level) levels, i also made some tutorial level on
advanced techs Mario can do. At the end you can go to Bowser Castle and
beat the game(normal ending) or find a secret teleport and doing the secret
ending(good ending) in both the cases the last levels were did after a while
and i got the determination to complete the hack, so they are quite tricky;

2) Some time later i got some neat knowledge on how hacking the game better,
this time the hack is quite particular and original... it's named Super Mario
Dark Force and this time the world is Darkened due to a mysterious force, in
order of saving the world you'll have need of the help of Yoshi, because that
force gave him some special power: he'll be able to eat other stuff, added to
what he could eat in vanilla and will be even able to store really useful stuff
inside the item power up box, like flying Keys, turtles, midair platforms, even
question goal spheres??? yes, and even more stuff(all this stuff is possible
because i played with "sprite tool" tool and checked in other sprites the
square) that allows Yoshi to eat it. The game revolves around this feature
and levels will be appearently impossible to beat, unless you use yoshi's
new powers, while the feature is neat and the power ups are different
according to Mario's current power up status (if Mario is small and yoshi eats
a certain sprite, you'll get power up A, if Mario eats a mushroom, yoshi will
get power up B, which most of the times is totally different) unfortunately
most of the times some power up in the box, will crush the game(if it comes
out from the box, an evil power indeed Tongue) combined with the difficulty of the
hack and the fact that even a little error might mean the end of your travel
(if you lost a power that was necessary to beat the level and you won't be
able to get it again, maybe because was on a level which you cannot beat
anymore, because it needed a missable power too, then you're stuck forever)
that means you need savestates...
This time the levels will be around 20-30 and they'll have an elegant design.
The map is finished and i already done all overworld events, but i only made
levels until you enter bowser lair, so i have just a demo, the demo contains
"world" 1, yellow/green switch palaces and some hidden level... will i ever
finish it? damn, is hard to tell, besides with the knowledge i got from
FF6Hacking.com, now it would become a piece 'o cake hacking SMW rom and
probably ram too, which means it would take extra time finishing that hack
in the case i wanna do deep hacking with it.
In other words it's in the pipe dream zone... Sad

After dealing with that i searched for world hardest games, after i dealt with those lame 2 games (World's hardest game 1-2 they were 30-50 levels with a ball that had to collect coins and then reach the green square) i found I Wanna Be The Guy, after finishing it, i wanted to hack it, but there were no decent editor to do that, meanwhile i started learning Pascal due to high school and so i figured out on my own how to make a game, starting from scratches(not exactly, let's say using Game Maker Tongue ) and since i was sick of the situation with IWBTG, then i decided
to make a fangame of IWBTG using Game Maker, starting from zero:

3) IWBTG: Tenkarider's Invasion (funny name?) is the name of the hack,
implemented some unique feature and started making the first part of the
game... but even in this case i have a demo, with 5 areas, some secret zone
and 5 bosses to deal with... except that, it's in the pipe dream zone;

I already downloaded RPG maker XP in the past, but i learnt how to actually use it
only after i dealt with Game Maker, and now it was the time to deal an RPG,
I still want to make something really amazing with it, but i feel somehow limited...
perhaps in my current knowledge? So i even considered to remake it on a different
game editor/maker, but i'm not sure about that...

4) Tenka's Quest(just a temporary name, sooner or later it will have his true
name) based on RPG maker XP, so it's based on turns in FF1 style, my hack
features some element from Suikoden and from Breath of Fire mainly, but
guess what? another demo is all what i have... Sad it lasts until you leave the
first continent. (about 10 hours of gameplay, assuming you don't try to grind
and beat optional strong monsters/boss in the demo) yet it's just storyline,
except a couple of secret zones and side stuff/secrets that are still to be
added to world/sub maps in any case its progress is in pipe dream zone too.

Probably you didn't want to hear the story of my life Laugh anyway...
Now there are the projects after i'll finish CotG:

1) Actually it started some time ago, but i'm gonna make a game with one dear friend, actually the thing will be destined to expand quickly in the case it works: it's a serious project, which means that it's aimed to make money... it's a browser game and well... that's all i can say about it, wish me the best of luck! Wink

2) I'm gonna learn Java and then Android, in order of being able to make apps for smartphone? Eventually i might be able to create something that might sell Smile
I mean, if Flappy bird was a success, then i'm starting to think that everyone has a chance. Anyway i might have a neat idea... we'll see it someday... (or not?)

3) At this point i might use SDK as well for something, yet i dunno it that something will include even CotG... reversing HP/MP boost was the most annoying thing i ever made, hacking FF6... i might not wanna discover how to do that with ruby code too, honestly...
PS. the number of future projects don't tell the order in which they will be done.

4) Recently i was wondering how would be a demake of Demon Souls... so i thought i might try to do that with Game Maker, connecting it with a piece of Dark Souls story and i'd add my personal changes to the plot and contents in general...

5) If 1) will be a success, good; if not... good. In any case i wanna make games as job, so i'm gonna make this and that project, with and without profit(depends on which project). it won't be easy but i'll do my best in order of make it become reality.

Said that, basically i'm gonna be busy with game projects like... forever.

PS. just in the case... if anyone might be interested in playing some hack(also betas) i did in the past, just ask me and i'll provide a link.

There's an Eclipse build that is for developing Android Apps. If you develop Android apps, you'll write Java code so it's a good idea to start by Java. Personally for the IDE I prefer Android Studio.

Personally I think any programming language is more friendly than ASM. I much prefer dealing with a game engine coded in Ruby than getting lost in bank C2.

with games like axiom verge and shovel knight out there i think we all have a chance if we approach it in the right way and make a strong team

I don't even know if i can call that ASM, since i literally dealt only with the raw hex code... btw bank C2 is not enough to make the whole reverse thing...

Yeah, besides i realized that i can actually do some neat pixel art on my own, after i finished to draw with paint the final boss of CotG hack (for obvious reasons i cannot show it to you, too bad...)
The only thing i miss is being able to build up some decent/nice music starting from zero... besides i dunno which tool should i have to use for it and which music format should i use.
I had some experience making custom musics in FF6, but probably it won't help too much for doing it for a new game.
