I'm not sure my favourite ones belong to one category...
My favourite are very distant, lonely and small places... the classic hidden area of a game, not easily reachable which contains a single treasure(not necessarily with ONLY a treasure).
I feel somehow happy, calm in those places.
I might almost define them... romantic. (Weeping Meadow lily place for sure)

Hmmm, voting doesn't seems to work for me... The poll disappear after I submit my vote. Anyone else have this issue?
Edit: Voting doesn't work only if you vote from the thread and not the front page. I'll look into this when I got time.

I personally like floating islands in the sky. Chrono Trigger's Kingdom of Enhasa immediately comes to mind, as well as randomly generated floating islands in Minecraft. I like the generally secluded nature of them, as well as the fact that they generally seem to be a safe haven from danger. I voted for the castles in lieu of the floating island option that doesn't exist because castles are also really cool.
The only thing harder than finding a needle in a haystack is finding a haystack in a needle.

I really like forest areas. They always have the best music too. Although perhaps the fact that I'm listening to a forest theme right now is making me biased.

If I could choose one of three, it's the towns and cities because no random monsters can attack you there. And you can rest at the inn and take a break from pillaging.

if a shady town was an option, I'd pick that lol
"Sometimes ninjas do wrong to each other, and in dat way the force of tha earf' comes around da moon - and at that presence, da dirt, it overshadows the grass, so you're like, I can't cut dis grass, there's no sun comin' through. So in order to enable each other the two fruits have to look each other in da eye and understand we can only be right, as da ripe is wrong, you know what I mean?"
