when you are in Fanatics Tower only this stuff works:
- magic command
- item command
- mime command
- umaro
if a character is not Umaro and doesn't have any of the commands above, then the game should crush when you are in that tower
and that character gets a turn.
I think Abyss might did something to avoid this happening.
Sounds like ZSNES flickers always in that point... why torturing yourself?
Just use Snes9x as emulator instead, with it the game never flickers
