Guess I'll jump on the bandwagon tooLaugh

My nick means Netzer Matithyahu, or roughly "Branch/Watcher Matthew," Netzer being the name of the early Jewish Christians0:-)

Generic hacker, a little of this and a little of that. Used to crack Windows software because dirt poor, but after discovering Linux and free software more or less gave that up, taking what I learned of it to rom-hacking.

Played Final Fantasy 6 & 7 for the first time at age 6-7, still can't decide which is my favourite. Played D&D for an equally long time.

Not much of an artist/spriter, will need to call on you guys for assistanceTongue

RE: Introduction Thread - runchan - 12-22-2012

Hi there, my name is Xain (but you can call me runchan, whatever you prefer). I'm almost 16 years old and have been on and off (mainly off. I get into it whenever I happen to come across a ROM hack/video that I'm really impressed with) with romhacking for about 3 years in the areas of Super Mario World and focused on a ton of Final Fantasy 1 a while back. I never got into coding, ASM, etc. mainly because I didn't take it seriously enough, but I understood the basics and some advanced strategies in both games. I've completed a Super Mario World ROM hack which was on my previous computer, however I never uploaded it to SMWCentral or anything.

Being new to the forum, I don't really know where to post the second half of my post, so I'll post it here. If it's answered somewhere, let me know. Being completely new to Final Fantasy VI ROM hacking, what is the recommended way of starting out?

Dude, you have 3x more hacking years than me and worked on twice more game than me. xD

Well there is two ways to do things. The first one is fun; you take the existing editors available (mainly FF3usME, FF3SE and FF6LE) and you do a mod while balancing stuff with the FFVI knowledge you got. This is what most peopel do and some stop after this.

The second way include everything from the first way but you try to understand the data and most important learn how to code. You spend time doing searches on this forum, slick productions and mnrogar when you try to understand something and you read every important document available and most important you keep a copy. You can get into event modification, then with practice you create your own or/and you give yourself coding or modification challenges and try to figure out some of the commented stuff in the disassemblies.

In the end it depends what you are looking for. FF3us is the easiest SNES game to make a mod of with all the available tools, but there is still unknown areas left to explore to those who have a decent knowledge of the game, code wise. Plus the more you know the better and more original your hack can be.

Thanks for the well informed reply. I've been looking through a lot of FF3usME lately with the weapon/enemy editor. I'm thinking of ripping a boss from another game (preferably a Final Fantasy game. Most likely II to V) in the sprite editor and take a shot at making a boss. Will probably take a while to understand what to do, though. Finger

Hello everybody, long time lurker, first time poster here. I've been lurking for a while now looking at the resources that all of you have been working on and providing, and I figure I may as well join the conversation. I've worked on a few minor hacking projects on snes games for a little while, mostly just stuff to amuse myself and friends, but have been working on a bigger project off and on (mostly off) for the last little while. I can't say I'm great at what I do, but I do a bit of sprite work and a small bit of programming and I look forward to contributing what I can to the community.

RE: Introduction Thread - DrROBschiz - 01-04-2013

Hey guys

FF6 was my first RPG ever and also my alltime favorite

I have been playing just about every hack/patch combination i can think of and find in an effort to constantly rekindle the magic and fun of playing FF6 while providing myself with all the new content that the wonderful community provides!

I pretty much haunt and hound all the guys at Slickness, scour RHDN, and recklessly combine patches on a whim (because i can't code) in the hopes of creating the definitive FF6 experience.

Consider me eternally grateful to all you talented people who still plug away at this old classic! I can't wait to see what comes for 2013! Its already looking bright!
