Monarch Mobius XXXV teaser (Update 08.06.2015) - Murak Modder - 06-07-2015

I was looking through some sprites, and I noticed that Leo's outfit is very similar to the base one that Monarch Mobius XXXV wears in one of my novels, both when he was a prince, and the king.

He's also known as Dirk Yukimaru.

(I know I'm not the best artist around.)

As for the teaser itself.

I'm not sure what the rule is on teaser images, but hopefully this isn't too big. (ie, 100% sprite size, 200%, etc)

Used to make this:
Edrin's Biggs hair. (I previously got permission to use Biggs and Wedge in part or whole.)
General Leo's uniform.
a (modified) Siegfried cape.

The key differences between the prince and the king uniform is that as a king, he has a cape over one shoulder and uses the weapon shown in the image, but before then, he... doesn't and just uses generic weapons.

Would anyone be interested in me finishing this? If I do, I'll make further adjustments for the caped design (matching hands, lining up the light blue line on the uniform, etc.) and make it available for anyone to use.

If I use it, it'll be for a position similar to Mog / Umaro or Edgar / Sabin. (Likely Mog / Umaro since the palette is similar to palette 5 with some adjustments.)

Edit: Alright, I modified palette 5 in such a way it doesn't alter Ultros or Chupon, but it does affect both the Moogles and Umaro, but if its used, then Dirk and his sister would be replacing both of them.

In terms of my progress, I fully removed Leo's head and adjusted the body to have the same colours as here (fixing the boots, gloves and the coat) and I'm now adding in the head.

Unfortunately, I need to go out and do things for a few hours, so I'll be unable to finish it until tonight.

After I put the head on, I'll release that one and work on the caped version.

---Edit---
Alright, I added on the head for 3 rows of sprites, but I was invited to go to a quiz tonight, so I need to get ready to head out, here's an updated teaser.

I'm deciding what to do with the gloves on the side view btw.

There's no rule on teaser image size, as long they don't break the thread post in width. Also, this look like an interesting character.

RE: Monarch Mobius XXXV teaser - Murak Modder - 06-07-2015

The background story for Mobius / Dirk is that he's from Norvale, a frozen kingdom far to the north, he appeared in a couple of my other books, but his own story was told in 'Successor to the Frozen Throne."

Basically in it, he's the heir to Norvale, but he's more or less useless and his sister Genevieve (Also known as Maeve Yukimaru) is the one who keeps the Kingdom running as she makes all of the public appearances, stands as the Judge in the crown court, etc due to their father's failing health.

Which in turn is due to Dirk merely because he was born.

In the story, there's ancient runes that were given to the royal line by the Impure Gods, which allows them to channel magical powers and have a significantly reduced ageing process, but when you have a heir born, your rune is passed onto them.

At which point, any injuries or ageing that should have happened come back at once, which could be fatal and kill the host instantly if they lived an unnaturally long time or suffered great injuries that they used the rune to recover from.

However, his father was taken to an advanced age and the only thing keeping him alive is artificial mana being injected into his body by a machine.

He has not the strength to stand, and he keeps going until he can pass on everything that his son needs to know.

Officially speaking, Genevieve is the acting Queen in all but name, and Dirk, not realising the sheer importance he has, decides to take a break for a couple days (no more than a week) and he disguises himself as a commoner and hangs around the city and after seeing that there was no immediate consequences in his leave, he took his disguise to the next level after meeting with a noble and seeing a 'Hume' for the first time.

(In his world, Humans are more or less sold as slaves or food, they're considered to be poor quality ones when compared to Mannequins (A specially made doll using body parts of humans and given a specialised purpose, such as a cook, bodyguard or a lover.) and he altered his appearance to be the same as a Hume and wanted to travel for a few weeks.

Unfortunately, he came across Ruari, a man employed by the Alchemist who works to ferry humans between Earth and Terra and round up any stray ones.

After a fight broke out, Dirk ended up killing him by accident when his royal rune activated as a defence mechanism, and now that he killed someone, he couldn't simply return to Norvale as he became a wanted man.

I won't say too much more in case anyone wants to actually read Dirk's story, but in short, because Dirk left, something that was sealed underneath the capital was allowed to wake up and weaken the barriers on the others, which in turn allowed a very bad man to return to power. =P

I was thinking it would be interesting to try to make FF6 style sprites on Dirk and Maeve and include them as a cameo in something, since I'm already working on a (reasonably) big project and I don't have the time or resources to do one about my books.

I'll finish the base one, and work on the other design, which should be interesting since he has entirely different poses for me to add the cape to when compared to Siegfried's.

In fact, I can probably do a spritesheet for Genevieve pretty easily, since her design is just a white dress (with light blue trim) and long dark blue hair.

it isn't a bad start, I would personally change up the back of his neck, it seems odd to have a high collar

its not bad though, some creative usage of different sprites keep at it

I look forward to seeing the completed sprite

Sorry for not replying sooner, about a few minutes after you posted, I had a reply, but apparently I didn't hit send or something. Laugh

In terms of progress, I have only a few more heads to put on before the cape is added, but I also noticed that Leon's hair is far closer to what Mobius has, and I only got permission to use him, but not in part, so for now, I'll just do the normal Biggs one. =P

As for the collar, this is 100% unedited from Leo's uniform and the original design I
had for him included a high collar, I could try to shorten it if you really think it'll suit him more.

I would have worked more on it, but I was going through a very dark period and contemplated certain things, but that's mostly over for the time being!

(Pops a party popper) Now is the happy fun times! Celebrations for all!

(Hands out a paper party hat and a slice of cheeseless pizza to everyone in the topic) Mangia! Mangia!

Do you still work on this sprite? The teaser looks, hmm... pretty awesome, so keep it up man! Cheering for you
