Gil Turtle/Tortoise - Blue Mage Gab - 02-23-2015

Title:Gil Turtle Boss Hack V 1.0
Author:Blue Mage Gab aka. Shadow542

About
This is a finished Boss Hack for Final Fantasy III. It features the Gil Tortoise
from Final Fantasy V Advance. Remember, this is a simple boss hack, nothing except the boss and a few other things were hacked at all.

What is changed?
- A new optional boss for you to fight, the Gil Turtle, located inside the forests of Triangle Island.
- The Zone Eater(in the forest) was replaced by the Gil Turtle.
- Dry Land Zone Eater was replaced with another enemy(no optional boss, just a plain ol' enemy, the Black Dragon, to be precise)

Q: Can I see a few screenshots?What about a video?
A: Sure, here are the screenshots:

Downloading Information
The .zip file I posted contains the IPS Patch itself, one README and another one marking something important and a .zs1 file(a SaveState). If you won't use it, you'll have to start the game from the very beginning.
With my .zs1 file, you will be in Triangle Island at around level 35-40 with all of your party members obtained already.

Enjoy!

Uhm... the other 3 images don't work.

Using your savestate, or restarting the game since beginning is a rule restriction, or what?

RE: Gil Turtle/Tortoise - Blue Mage Gab - 02-24-2015

I suspected that would happen. I'm gonna upload the screenshots on a different "host". I believe that the last image is the only working one.
The main reason why I put the SaveState there is because players usually want to go directly for the boss. Either using the savestate or starting the game from the very beginning is your choice, but my savestate has every PC there and a few know every spell and they are at a good level, too.

RE: Gil Turtle/Tortoise - Tenkarider - 02-24-2015

Since boss hacks don't have really much justice, compared to full game hacks, i'll proclaim myself the paladin of boss hacks!!! Objection!
and so i'll try them, record a battle and review them.

I tested your Boss... here's my considerations:

1) Design of the boss: 8/10
I like the sprite! i don't remember if in FF6 there are real turtle monsters or not, in the case i might consider to use this sprite(credits will be given, in the case)
On a side note i remember Gil Turtle was a great sized monster(well, at least in FF XII);

2) Parameters 8/10
They're well balanced for the expected level(the savestate gives you LV 40 allies, so i guess that's the expected level), besides he still does decent damage with good equips, probably something that you would avoid to fight, if you're not prepared to the battle(assuming it's used in a full game hack and you randomly encounter him);

3) AI 6/10
Quite predictable and simple as AI... exactly what you would expect from an earth based monster... he does more attack in a row than a standard enemy, but the AI doesn't look exactly the one of a boss/mini boss

4) Strategy 7/10
Classic stategy, still he chains a quake after 50 Gs, so you won't escape from that and possibly have to heal and reuse float on the party, you also need of guarding yourself from muddle.
Something i apreciate is when a monster heals himself when casting Quake, and that happens here.

Overall: 7/10
Nice monster and all what i said, still he suffers the usual problems of vanilla earth monsters: Auto float or blocking heart makes him powerless.
Just to not make a sad battle i removed paladin shield from Terra, you can see me wasting some time to test Tools, since i expected to see how they were changed, but actually i don't see any change... Huh
Another thing i don't like is when Sketch commands are useless, and this monster is not an exception... there's no point to assign 100% battle against him.

Soon I'll be removing your attachment and host your boss on the forum server if it's the final version.

What do you mean...? host on the forum = put a link in the thread?

RE: Gil Turtle/Tortoise - SSJ Rick - 02-24-2015

attachments aren't allowed its a rule

RE: Gil Turtle/Tortoise - Tenkarider - 02-24-2015

Ah, ok... then i knew that. Tongue

RE: Gil Turtle/Tortoise - Blue Mage Gab - 02-26-2015

Thank you everyone for your support! I'm very happy to see videos by other people than me about my boss(thanks Tenkarider)

Actually, I have not made this sprite myself, I actually took the monster sprite from FFV.
Also, this is my first boss hack, my first -released- custom boss from the FF6 Hacking Industry, as I have got one more boss hack featuring
two bosses in the WoB.

Originally, the AI Script was bigger than what you see now, because when I tried to expand the script, I was always told that there's not enough "memory" for more attacks and such.
@Madsiur: Yes, this is the final version. You can host it in the forum server if you want. Actually, you will help me a lot if you do this.
@d- -b: Sorry, I didn't know about that rule, but I figured out that the attachments look pretty ugly.

And about Edgar's tools, I made this hack over an older ROM i kept in my computer and I couldn't remember the Air Anchor and the Debilator. Because of this, I thought that I messed around with that ROM ages ago and changed a few tools.

RE: Gil Turtle/Tortoise - Tenkarider - 02-26-2015

You're welcome Wink

I didn't knew it was the same sprite, which it reminds me that i still have to play
FF IV and V... Sad

Which problems do you have with the AI limit?
With FF3usME you can expand the rom to 32 Mb, then you can apply the monster AI patch, which is already inside that program... in this way you'll have more than 10000 bytes for your AI!
