Free Space Confusion - Royaken - 03-19-2014

This may be relatively simple to answer, but I didn't want to ask it in the chat incase it wasn't. I know there's a thread here that lists the Free Space in the game, but one thing I see mentioned alot is the F bank. Especially for when moving a song or event. Is the F Bank listed on the free space list? If so, what is it? Still kinda new to the free space thing. Haven't used it much yet but I'm going to need to soon xD.

It's the bank that is added when you expand your ROM to 32Mbits. If you do such an expanding with FF3usME, you get an extra 10000h bytes of free space.

RE: Free Space Confusion - JCE3000GT - 03-19-2014

To add on to this thread the free space thread / document just lists the amount of free space in the existing non-expanded ROM.

Don't know if it helps you but here's a quick HiROM breakdown if memory serves me correctly...

Bank = Offset range:
C0-CF = 000000-0FFFFF
D0-DF = 100000-1FFFFF
E0-EF = 200000-2FFFFF
F0-FF = 300000-3FFFFF (expanded)

Alright thank you so much! And what are the downsides to expanding (if any)?

RE: Free Space Confusion - JCE3000GT - 03-20-2014

Welcome.

I don't know if there really are any downsides other than I've noticed the further offsets you put music the loading time fractionally increases. Or at least it looked that way when I was messing around with importing music past F0. I could be wrong, Nattak may want to back me up or call me crazy on this.

Otherwise you can use the F bank liberally.
