Good question. The GBA script is a good one, yet it has some parts still straying from the original in a few places (mostly by keeping old Woolsey lines).
I don't really know how much Woolsey changed, though I have no idea what he was thinking substituting "Terra" for "Tina", and "Celes" was probably either meant to be "Ceres" (a Roman goddess) or "Cerise" (the French word for "cherry", which is my guess, since her surname is "Chere"). A few other things, like "Pearl" for "Holy" were interesting, but also unnecessary (and having pearl-elemental magic is nonsensical).

I'm back from a short trip.

You see, Woolsey did good and bad changes. Most bad changes were poor decisions in the dialogue script, not just because of having little time to finish it (which explains the mistranslated lines), but also because he put too much needless humor that wasn't there in the original game. Some lines were dumbed down to silly one-liners that are the source of all the nostalgia that all the people (who played the game at age ten) feel.

Terra was named as such because "Tina" sounds exotic to Japanese people, but is no biggie to Western people. Naming her Terra was a great choice. Celes... well, there might be an R/L double entendre in Japanese trying to evoke "celestial" and "cherry" but the official romanization of the name is Celes (the ending of the JP version has the names written in their official romanizations), no need to change it. And I think that "celestial" fits her more than just "cherry".
Now, Sabin is called Mash in Japan. Mash (マッシュ) is supposed to be short for Macías (マシアス), but IIRC that detail is only in the Square sourcebooks, so we would have ended up with a weird name that sounds like a TV war drama. That's the point of localization, make the content of the game easier for the new audience, but localization does not mean loss of quality, which is what damages FF6 SNES.

Hear, hear, UnknownVirus!

Though, I do love the line "Son of submariner." Tongue

Edit: I got a new controller; a wireless one that's really good, and so it will hopefully get me back into Final Fantasy VI, and help me do some editing.

Edit 2: Made some new screenshots. I also have some of the GBA changes added to the script for the first part where you fight the guards. I can't seem to find the esper scene, nor the text for if you want to know about Save Points. Hmmm...

Hey Aegis, I guess I missed your invite in the other thread. I would be happy to help you with this project.

How can we get in touch? The only messengers I use are Gtalk (pjmcphee87[at]gmail[dot]com), Windows Live (pjmcphee82@hotmail.com),
and skype (pjmcphee87)

Sorry. I'm still working on this project, I just need to contact Poco Loco for help because of recent errors I've found with the Restored Names patch, and the GBA font patch.

One thing, I can't seem to find some of the dialogs in LordJ's town dialog editor. Like, for example, the scene before Biggs, Wedge, and Terra face Ymir (Whelk). The guard's text isn't there, and neither is one of the soldiers who slams into the cage to break it. Either that, or it's just not in order and I can't find it.

What's the best dialogue editor for FF3/6?

Any problems with this?

I'm not sure what the best is since I'm new at this, but I'm loving FF3usME. It's so easy to export it to a text file and make the changes there. I use Notepad++ as my text editor, which is great if you want to replace names, items, etc. in the dialog.

Well... I meant for finding dialogues that I want to change, but can't find.
