Minecraft enthusiasts will be happy:

Square Enix announced the latest Dragon Quest game, with the Minecraft-like “block-make RPG” called Dragon Quest Builders: Revive Alefgard for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita.

Dragon Quest Builders is set in “Alefgard,” which is actually the name of the geographical setting of the very first Dragon Quest game. Alefgard has been desolated by the Dragonlord, and it’ll be up to you to revive its land.

The protagonist comes in male and female versions, both drawn by series designer Akira Toriyama. He/she has a special power of being able to create an item out of just about anything. At first, you’ll be in a world with basically nothing. From there, you’ll gather “Material” from various parts around the world, and create items, towns, and castles. The world will continue to spread out as you continue expanding the main base. And yes—there are battles against monsters.

Yuji Horii commented, “Dragon Quest Builders is a completely new block-make RPG, where you’ll revive and recover the land of Alefgard that has been devastated by the Dragonlord. The world of Alefgard that is represented by blocks will allow you to freely build, break, and remodel, similar to the feeling of a sandbox or building blocks. I hope to see you make your very own world of Alefgard.”

Dragon Quest Builders is scheduled to release in Japan this winter for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.

awesome minecraft with a bloody purpose
Yeah I might get this since there will be battles and probably level up. Combined with material quests and building stuff, this could be fun.
akira toriyama add minecraft sells it to me
Granted, the building, digging, fighting, killing, crafting, etc sounds promissing but also leaves me wondering if it will include that advanced beyond normal scope of game crafting that minecraft had.

Seriously, some of that crazy quantium block stacking, computers built from torches, stuff that I can't imagine and I've watched the videos of it...

The point, yeah, just how open world creativity will there be. Still looks promissing.

I had to look that up, didn't knew the minecraft engine was capable of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJCWOCVatfE
huh?!? Surprised
The next step will be making a ff6 hack using minecraft computer! Laugh
Yeah, the wild stuff built with the base blocks is some of the coolest to see work.

The stuff built with mods? Not sure what you can call it but some of it required writing programs in Basic to run machines in game.

So yeah, I have to wonder just how far they'll take their minecraft mimicry. Full on "nothing is impossible" or just an imatation and the ability to build a pile of rocks.
When they'll be able to build a dragon ONLY with a huge pile of blocks and redstones(a dragon huge like that computer, of course! Tongue ) and being able to make him fight the player through the world map, then they'll convince me to give a shot to Minecraft/mods Tongue
