Hi again everyone. I'm here to present a Beyond Chaos spinoff project. Remember the final dungeon in Beyond Chaos? Remember how long and aggressively obnoxious it was? Wouldn't it be great if the whole game was just one really long, aggressively obnoxious dungeon? Me too!

Presenting... Final Fantasy VI: Beyond Chaos: Ancient Cave! When you select a new game in FF6BCAC, you start with level 1 characters at the top of Kefka's Tower and jump straight into the action. Cut out those thrilling, skillfully dramatic cutscenes! Cut out all of that lovable character interaction! Cut out a compelling story about the pointlessness of war and postwar Japan's struggle to reconcile its cherished traditions and its animist beliefs with rapid modernization and western cultural hegemony! No one wants it! Just give us a ton of random encounters!

FF6BCAC has two modes, "ancientcave" and "speedcave". The "speedcave" mode is designed to be completed in one sitting, after about 3-4 hours, and you start with enough characters to make three full parties. The "ancientcave" mode is crazy long and you only start with a handful of characters, so you gotta find your friends in the dungeon itself. In both modes you will find espers and precious loot scattered throughout the dungeon, as well as inns and various kinds of shops.

But there's more! Let's say that you're a glutturn for punishment. Well, good news! FF6BCAC is compatible with all of the randomization mods usable in a standard FF6BC randomization! Want to explore the cave with nonsensical, garishly colored characters? Hideously difficult, garishly colored enemies? Garishly colored, garishly colored environments? You have the capability. That's on you.

Anyone still reading this? FF6 Beyond Chaos Ancient Cave, available in version 56, now!

OH GOD!!! i love you man! really... you always know what to do, when to do it and how to do it! Kungfu!

The ultimate FF6 randomizer, i had enough of following over and over the (yet beautiful) whole damned storyline, with scheming always the same pattern of search of main/optional quests and all that jazz

Only the essential... basically you succeded in doing a roguelike mod.

Since my bro loves as hell roguelikes, and randomizer is a middle way between RPG and rogue style, i informed him immediately: he downloaded it in no time and ready to test the mod Laugh

I'm currently doing ROTDS playthrough, but there's no doubt that the next one gonna be this cave, meanwhile the testers will spot the problems and eventually be fixed, just in time for my turn Tongue

PS. after you generate the BC normal file what do you have to do? is it a IPS patch or it's an exe program again?

RE: Official FF6: Beyond Chaos thread (randomizer) - abyssonym - 05-28-2015

It's the same exe program as before. You just need to use either of the codes, "ancientcave" or "speedcave" in the flags.

RE: Official FF6: Beyond Chaos thread (randomizer) - Tenkarider - 05-28-2015

So you need to write manually all the other flags too?
Or they will be set by default?

RE: Official FF6: Beyond Chaos thread (randomizer) - abyssonym - 05-28-2015

If you just put the code by itself, it will use the default flags. But if you have the code + additional flags, it will just execute the additional flags. For example, if you use the flags "ancientcavezb", then you will have a vanilla game with the Ancient Cave, Sprint Shoes, and balance mods.

RE: Official FF6: Beyond Chaos thread (randomizer) - Tenkarider - 05-28-2015

Mhh... that's quite nasty... not really much user-friendly
how 'bout putting the choice between BC / speedmode / ancientmode
before choosing the other flags as next update?

RE: Official FF6: Beyond Chaos thread (randomizer) - abyssonym - 05-28-2015

Yeah, that's fair. My only concern is that it would be bothersome to ask too many questions on startup. Maybe I'll just include a separate step for codes in general.

RE: Official FF6: Beyond Chaos thread (randomizer) - Murak Modder - 05-28-2015

...I have to say, that idea with Ancient and Speed cave sounds really, really awesome, and I am strongly considering breaking my 'no playing other people's projects' rules to try it out...

(The human mind subconsciously takes things it likes as inspiration and reference, even if it has no formal knowledge that it's going on, ergo, by playing someone else's work, it's entirely possible that my own work could contain elements of another's, which is a serious faux pax in quite a few modding communities, unless it's something generic like making Ashley the main character instead of Leon in RE4, or making Shinra the heroes in FF7, etc.)

RE: Official FF6: Beyond Chaos thread (randomizer) - abyssonym - 05-28-2015

I don't mind if you use things from Beyond Chaos in your own project. One of the stated objectives for Beyond Chaos is to inspire other modders. Though, you also run the risk of spending too much time playing other people's mods to work on your own!
