Wait, you're speaking as if you cannot escape from the battle?
Another solution should be getting some level while Vicks and Wedge are still with you... another determinating factor is the item inside Arvis clock.

ccrunner, you can post bug reports here or send them to me on Twitter. It also helps if you can provide the seed so I can try to reproduce the conditions myself.

As for early-game encounter difficulty... yeah, it's just going to be like that sometimes. I think I tend to have an easier time with it than other people because I give all of the experience points from the initial battles to Terra out of habit, so she ends up a higher level in the Narshe mines and everyone that joins thereafter is a higher level as well. I don't really want to make those battles easier, because the trade-off isn't very good. I have to exchange a lot of randomness for a little balance.

The best advice I can give you (or anyone in a similar situation) is to gain a couple of levels in the MagiTek section, run from battles that aren't worth fighting, and use the game's built-in save feature whenever possible. Enemy encounters change when you reset the game, so sometimes your only option is to make a mad dash for the next save point and hope to get lucky.

TenK: Yep, and I couldn't escape from battle. So I dug that ROM out of the Recycle Bin: Seed # = 1427234759. Excellent suggestions that you provided, in fact, I started again with renewed vigor. Until I realized how tough of a break it really was, randomizer-wise. No healing skills, items or battle finds. VICKS (or was it WEDGE?) has the Moogle Charm equipped, and the Varis clock produces a Memento Ring with no benefits. I had a good chuckle. After praying to RNGesus, I actually made it through the mines, though. It turns out the Bulaha enemy has permanent Runic active, which was an interesting twist. Good times!

With Seed # = 1427242312, Using (Terra's) Tools--> Autocrossbow will target all enemies and allies, every time. I figured this was a bug and not a hidden attribute, like Perma-Runic. Unless it is, then I'm just going to stop questioning anything ever again.

Perma-Runic is not common, but it was planned from the randomizer, i'm not sure about the autocrossbow, the same happened to me, with Throw and Shurikens, anyway.

RE: Official FF6: Beyond Chaos thread (randomizer) - abyssonym - 03-26-2015

Nice. I actually considered removing the Moogle Charm from the equipment pool for Vicks and Wedge for that very reason.

As for the Autocrossbow targeting... well, that definitely isn't an intended feature. Laugh It happens for the same reason that sometimes throwable items have messed-up targeting. But it is pretty funny so I'm not in any hurry to patch it.

Autocrossbow by all means: you get auto-shot from your weapon Laugh

Ok, I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, but I cannot get this randomizer to work. I tried both the Python and the .exe version of the randomizer, left the seed blank at all times, I tried leaving the flag blanks (which should activate them all) and typing in each flag, but no matter what, I get one of three outcomes: 1, everything is normal. 2, All the pallates are normal, but Terra has Blitz, no magic. Pummel is the usual left right left input. 3, all the palletes are normal, but Terra has Rage. And only a guard. Locke sometimes has a relic called Dragon Slave for his weapon on outcomes 2 and 3. My rom is unheadered, and should be version 1.0. I downloaded the BeyondChaosMaster zip, to boot, and am using that. Any ideas?

I think this is your problem. I haven't tried the randomizer but I think you're suppose to enter a seed in order for the game elements to be randomized.

RE: Official FF6: Beyond Chaos thread (randomizer) - abyssonym - 04-04-2015

No, if you leave the seed blank it just chooses one for you.

Based on the fact that palettes are normal, but Locke had Dragon Slave: the randomizer is probably crashing on the section where it randomizes monsters. Can you copy/paste the output of the randomizer? If there's an error, normally it will say something.

In particular, I'd like to know if it thinks the checksum of the rom is correct.

Oh, wow, I feel silly. I thought the program was done when it said 'Using seed: 5 .. (whatever seed)' and so I closed it. As I was typing that particular line down, it ran the rest of the program. Everything is fine now.
